German carmaker Audi has reported 13.6% rise in its global vehicle sales in September 2012 to 136,600 units compared 120,193 units sold during the corresponding month in 2011.

During September 2012, Audi reported an increase in US sales of 26.5% to 12,302 units, followed by 20.5% in China with 35,512 units sold compared to the same month in 2011.

The German carmaker's sales during the initial three quarters of 2012 rose 12.8% to 1,097,500 vehicles over 973,154 units sold during the same period the previous year.

Audi Board of Management for Marketing and Sales member Luca de Meo said: "This year we reached the tally of one million cars sold after just nine months - clear evidence that we are realizing our strategic goals in the right way."

Audi's vehicles that reported highest sales during the month in Europe include the A1 Sportback, the Q3 and the A6 Avant.

In 2011, the Audi Group sold 1,302,659 vehicles and reported revenue of €44.1bn as well as an operating profit of €5.3bn.

The German carmaker is currently expanding its Gyor facility in Hungary and is planning to commence production at China's Foshan plant in late 2013 as well as in San José Chiapa plant in Mexico from 2016.
